Taking My Own New Branding Photos: A Glimpse Into My Makeshift In-Home Studio

I’m beyond excited to share some fresh updates with you all!! I don’t have a fancy studio, and to be totally honest, I didn’t have the room in my budget to put money towards renting a studio, nor do I feel like it was the right call or needed. So what did I do?

I crafted a makeshift studio in my tiny two-bedroom apartment, my husband took the photos, and I edited them!

Why the Refresh?

It’s my firm belief that having photos that are semi-recent and look like you are crucial for your business. I want clients and prospective clients to know that I am constantly evolving and constantly growing as both a business owner and an individual. After I got married, (and I mean the day after), I chopped my hair off and felt like I was entering a new era, so I wanted my website photos to reflect that.

A Sneak Peek into My Creative Space

Super fancy, I know right??

Taking these new photos was a fun experience, but the reality is, it also was a bit stressful! When doing something new, I have to stretch my skills in utilizing space, lighting and poses to still capture what I want and produce photos that I feel like show my personality. My in-home studio is far from the typical professional setup—it’s more like a comfortable nook where all the magic happens.

And this is as real as it gets. You can see my ironing board from where I worked out wrinkles in the fabric, a cat bed, my film camera on the couch, you name it!

Do I absolutely love New Girl? Yes, yes I do.

From the random furniture to the assorted clutter to New Girl playing on our TV, these behind-the-scenes photos tell the true story of what it is like being a small business owner and entrepreneur.

I truly believe most photographers wouldn’t show you the behind-the-scenes like this because (although nothing against them) they might want to come off as everything being picture perfect.

My aim as a photographer is not perfect. My aim is memories, authenticity, and capturing joy. I want you to feel like you are getting a friend and working with just another normal human being when you choose me to take your photos. I want to create a space for you in your session (whether it is indoors for branding or outdoors for couples, maternity, family, you name it… photos) that feels REAL and shows an essence of the human experience.

What’s New?

  • A Personal Touch: The photos have a warmth to them to communicate the fun, joy, and warmth I hope to bring to every client session. My cats jumped into the session too and had some fun haha.

  • Casual Vibes: I am dressed casually with a hint of fun edginess, brought by my ripped jeans and (faux) leather blazer. This is all me, in-home shoot, and with clients at shoots too!

  • Storytelling Through Facial Expressions: I like goofing around in a shoot, capturing real laughs and also some serious expressions.

What’s Next?

I’m really looking forward to sharing these new photos with you. Some I have rolled out on my website and on my social media and others will come out with time when I post updates on social media! Check out the new images scattered throughout my site and let me know what you think.

If you’re interested in working with me, shoot me an inquiry and let’s get it goin!! Here’s to capturing more beautiful moments together!
